Paris 2nd — Le Sentier
The location
Le Sentier is not a tourist district; it is the centre of Paris before it is a postcard. From 14 rue du Caire you need neither the metro nor a taxi: the Louvre, the Opéra, the Marais and the banks of the Seine are all within walking distance.
This is a district that keeps its own hours. The wholesalers unload at eight in the morning, the wine bars fill their terraces at six in the evening, and in between, everything is open.

The liveliest pedestrian street in central Paris. Bakeries, cheesemongers, greengrocers, oysters at the counter and terraces overflowing from six in the evening. This is your everyday street: morning coffee happens here, and so does dinner without a reservation.
18 minutes on foot
The district where Paris goes out. Galleries, designer boutiques, place des Vosges, the Picasso museum, and streets that never quite close. On foot through Les Halles, or three metro stops if the day has been long.
12 minutes on foot
The Opéra Garnier, Galeries Lafayette and Printemps, the great houses of rue de la Paix. All of Parisian shopping happens within these few hundred metres, and you walk home with your bags.
